Motorcycle Tyres

Unlike car tyres, tyres fitted to a motorcycle have a round cross section designed to accommodate the learning required when a rider turns his bike.

Motorcycle tyres can be purchased for a range of different uses, such as racing, touring, crusing, sports and off road. Each type of motorcycle tyre has slightly different characteristics and are designed for usage on the different types of motor bikes – road, sports, cuisers and dirt bikes.

Types of motorcycle tyres

Touring

The most dubable of all the tyre types, touring tyres are constructed of a hard rubber and last for longer peroids than sport tyres. Generally, these tyres provide a lower amount of grip than sports tyres at normal temperatures but provide greater gip in low tempartures, such as wet road conditions.

Sports and Performance

These tyres provide the best levels of grip to enhance cornering ability (due to operating heat), however are not as durable as touring tyres.

Off road

These tyres have knobs with deeper tread that provides the maximum amount of grip on loose surfaces such as dirt, gravel, mud and sand. These tyres are well suited to use on trail or dirt bikes as they tend to be unstable on solid surfaces.

Racing

Also known as slick tyres or track tyres, they have a more triangular shape which provides the rider with a larger contact surface area when leaning into corners. Racing tyres have a very short life span as they are made from a softer rubber and are not recommended for use on the street.
